About the position

The Building Automation Programmer position at HTS Engineering Ltd. involves working as part of a dedicated team responsible for the installation, start-up, troubleshooting, commissioning, and servicing of Direct Digital Control (DDC) building automation systems. This role is critical in ensuring that HVAC systems operate efficiently and effectively, contributing to the overall success of projects. The technician will be expected to communicate clearly with various stakeholders, including customers, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and fellow employees, to ensure smooth project execution. In this position, the technician will independently perform duties both in an office environment and on construction job sites. Key responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing complex direct digital control system malfunctions, which requires extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and electronic theory. The technician will also be responsible for creating and modifying program algorithms for multiple systems, ensuring that all installations adhere to the established schedule and milestones. The role requires tracking and forecasting labor and material costs on assigned projects, managing suppliers and subcontractors, and identifying potential field changes. The technician will communicate these changes to customers and project managers and assist in cost estimates for change orders. Additionally, the technician will generate and submit extra work orders for non-contracted work performed, create control algorithms, download source code to controllers, manage system databases, and implement animated front-end graphical user interfaces. The technician will also analyze problems, resolve issues, perform service repairs, and provide customer training, ensuring timely completion of project closeout documents. Adherence to HTS's Code of Ethics and compliance with all laws and regulations is paramount in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Install, start-up, troubleshoot, commission, and service DDC building automation systems.
  • Diagnose and repair complex direct digital control system malfunctions.
  • Create and modify program algorithms for multiple systems.
  • Communicate installation schedules, milestone updates, job progress, and closeout plans with all levels of the contracting chain.
  • Track and forecast labor and material costs on assigned projects.
  • Manage suppliers and subcontractors during the construction phase to ensure adherence to job schedules.
  • Identify potential field changes and communicate them to customers and project managers.
  • Assist in cost estimates for change orders and generate extra work orders for non-contracted work.
  • Create control algorithms and download source code to controllers.
  • Manage system databases and implement animated front-end graphical user interfaces.
  • Analyze problems and resolve issues to ensure complete system functionality.
  • Perform service repairs, adjustments, and calibration on building systems.
  • Coordinate and perform customer training and ensure timely completion of project closeout documents.
  • Provide technical support and direction to end-users and employees.

Requirements

  • Vocational School four-year program or an Associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning, or a similar field, or equivalent military occupational specialty plus two years of industry experience, or five years of experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
  • Proficient in reading wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • General understanding of IP networks.
  • Familiarity with various hand and power tools.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Lonworks and/or BACnet Control Systems; TRIDIUM and NIAGARA 4 experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history.

Nice-to-haves

  • Niagara Tridium certification.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Talon and/or Distech Controls.
