About the position
The Building Mechanic at Ball State University is responsible for performing skilled and non-skilled maintenance tasks related to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades. This role is essential for ensuring the upkeep and functionality of university facilities, contributing to a safe and efficient environment for students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks related to the carpentry trade, including constructing, remodeling, and repairing buildings and facilities.
- Repair and replace electrical equipment, including switches, light fixtures, and fans.
- Repair and replace plumbing fixtures and perform maintenance on plumbing systems.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- Complete work orders and service requests, maintaining various areas of the university.
- Perform other maintenance-related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in relevant trades or six years of experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.
- Ability to read and comprehend safety policies and perform mathematical calculations.
- Valid Drivers License and insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
- Ability to perform all mental and physical requirements outlined in job duties.
