About the position

The Building Mechanic at Ball State University is responsible for performing skilled and non-skilled maintenance tasks related to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades. This role is essential for ensuring the upkeep and functionality of university facilities, contributing to a safe and efficient environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks related to the carpentry trade, including constructing, remodeling, and repairing buildings and facilities.
  • Repair and replace electrical equipment, including switches, light fixtures, and fans.
  • Repair and replace plumbing fixtures and perform maintenance on plumbing systems.
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Complete work orders and service requests, maintaining various areas of the university.
  • Perform other maintenance-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in relevant trades or six years of experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety policies and perform mathematical calculations.
  • Valid Drivers License and insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
  • Ability to perform all mental and physical requirements outlined in job duties.

Nice-to-haves
