About the position

The Building Mechanic at Ball State University is responsible for performing skilled and non-skilled maintenance tasks related to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades. This full-time position plays a crucial role in ensuring the functionality and safety of university facilities, contributing to a well-maintained campus environment. The role requires adherence to safety regulations and codes while providing excellent service to the university community.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks related to the carpentry trade, including construction, remodeling, and repair of buildings and facilities.
• Repair and replace electrical equipment, including switches, light fixtures, and motors.
• Repair and replace plumbing fixtures and perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems.
• Repair and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including pumps and motors.
• Prioritize and complete work orders and service requests, maintaining cleanliness and functionality of university facilities.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Electricity, Plumbing, HVAC, or Carpentry, or six years of relevant experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend safety policies and perform mathematical calculations.
• Valid Drivers License and insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
• Ability to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in job duties.
