About the position

The Bus Driver position involves operating a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school, special events, and field trips. The role requires adherence to time schedules and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding pupil transportation. The Bus Driver is responsible for maintaining the bus in a safe operating condition, ensuring student safety, and managing student behavior during transit.

Responsibilities

• Operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules.
• Provide safe and efficient transportation for District students to and from school, special events, and field trips.
• Perform daily inspections and operator maintenance of the vehicle.
• Assist in the loading and unloading of physically and mentally handicapped students as necessary.
• Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus following District policies and procedures.
• Report incidents that affect the safety of students.
• Interact with parents regarding questions, concerns, and disputes.
• Perform emergency bus evacuation drills as required by Kentucky Administration Regulations.
• Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven, and number of children transported.
• Utilize two-way radio for communication between buses and the base.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid Class A or B CDL with passenger, air brakes, and school bus endorsement.
• Completion of Kentucky School Bus Training.
• Ability to meet health requirements as specified in the district personnel policy.
• Must meet the requirements of a criminal record check(s) as specified by Kentucky State Law.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of safe driving practices
• Familiarity with provisions of the State Motor Vehicle code and Kentucky Administration Regulations applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting students.
