In addition to managing existing client relationships, the Business Banker is expected to actively reach out to potential clients through community engagement, which may involve visiting local businesses, making outbound calls, and conducting educational seminars. The role requires a strong emphasis on sales management, ensuring a consistent calling program is in place to generate new deposits and loan business. The Business Banker will meet with clients to assess their business needs and recommend appropriate banking solutions. The position also involves strategic planning for portfolio growth, aligning with departmental budgets and overall bank asset/liability management objectives. The Business Banker must maintain a thorough understanding of competitors' products and pricing, review deposit profitability, and develop strategies to improve unprofitable accounts. Additionally, the role includes communication of lending decisions to clients and follow-up on loan exceptions to ensure timely resolution. Representing the bank at civic and community functions is also a key aspect of this position, aimed at enhancing the bank's image and fostering new business opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively grow and deepen relationships with existing and new small business clients.
  • Present product and service solutions that meet clients' financial needs and goals.
  • Conduct regular calling programs to generate new deposits and loan business.
  • Meet with clients to discuss business needs and recommend banking solutions.
  • Assist in planning portfolio growth through business plan development.
  • Coordinate with internal business partners to meet client needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of competitors' products and pricing.
  • Review deposit profitability and strategize to improve unprofitable accounts.
  • Procure updated financial information from borrowing clients.
  • Communicate lending decisions to clients and follow up on loan exceptions.
  • Represent the bank in civic and community functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • 4-6 years of experience as a Business Banker.
  • Proven ability to meet sales goals, including credit products and referrals.
  • Skilled in sourcing, acquiring, and maintaining client relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Significant experience as a business advocate.
  • Advanced knowledge of retail and small business products and strategies.
  • Understanding of banking products and services.
  • Experience sourcing small business clientele.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex financial accounting and analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience leading or participating in local networks or professional organizations.
