About the position

As a Claims Business Intelligence Analyst at Central Mutual Insurance Company, you will play a pivotal role in transforming data to drive decision-making and prioritization within the Claims department. This position is designed for individuals who possess a natural curiosity for continuous improvement and a passion for streamlining data processes. You will be responsible for delivering data-driven solutions that provide key stakeholders with the insights they need to succeed in their roles. Your work will involve building and iterating dashboards, collaborating with various teams including Claims, IT, analytics, underwriting, actuarial, and finance to ensure data accuracy and relevance. In this role, you will assist the organization in making informed, data-driven decisions while identifying new solutions that align with both short-term and long-term goals. You will interact with stakeholders to understand their needs and provide insights that help meet profit, growth, and expense objectives. Additionally, you will oversee training for the tools developed and work closely with internal teams to ensure that insights are acted upon effectively. Your proactive support will involve setting expectations, building rapport, and responding to requests in a timely manner. You will also collaborate with leadership to accomplish departmental goals, maintain comprehensive documentation for business intelligence solutions, and actively participate in the data governance committee. Your contributions will be essential during the semi-annual Claims Governance meetings, where you will assist Line of Business leads in gathering relevant data. Furthermore, you will evaluate third-party data to optimize spending and results for various products and services utilized in underwriting and claims operations. As the Subject Matter Expert for Central's Claim dashboards, you will ensure that the Claims team is properly trained and effectively using the dashboards, while clearly communicating any changes or updates to metrics, data, and dashboard design.

Responsibilities

  • Build, utilize and consistently iterate dashboards.
  • Collaborate with Claims team, IT, analytics, underwriting, actuarial, finance and other business units to ensure data is accurate.
  • Assist the organization in making data-driven decisions and identifying new solutions that support its short and long-term goals.
  • Collaborate with appropriate business units to perform data analyses as required.
  • Interact with stakeholders to understand needs and provide insights that help meet profit, growth and expense goals.
  • Oversee training for the tools developed and work with internal teams to ensure insights are acted upon.
  • Provide proactive support by appropriately setting expectations, building rapport and responding to requests in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with leadership -- listen, respond and work to accomplish department goals.
  • Maintain full documentation for business intelligence solutions and related services along with associated communications and documents.
  • Actively participate on the data governance committee.
  • Assist LOB leads in gathering data for semi-annual Claims Governance meetings.
  • Evaluate third-party data to optimize spend and results for various products and services utilized in underwriting/claims operation.
  • Conduct necessary research to properly define terms; progress governance of CMI data.
  • Support Data Analytics as Claims SME on projects and business use cases.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for Central's Claim dashboards.
  • Ensure Claims team is properly trained and using dashboards.
  • Clearly communicate any changes or updates to the metrics, data, and dashboard design.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2 years of insurance or IT experience, or 4 years of insurance or IT experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex data elements.
  • Possess exceptional critical thinking and research skills.
  • Skilled at working with cross-functional teams and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage detailed datasets and build reports while drawing out actionable insight.
  • Maintains an attitude of a constant learner -- keeping pace with industry trends, changes and current events in order to better understand impact to the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant Industry designations.
  • Using dashboard tools such as Power BI.
  • Building reports in Power BI and/or working with SQL a plus.
  • Proficient in Data360 Govern, DAX, and Python.
  • Experience in underwriting, Claims, business, IT, marketing or relevant field.
  • Knowledge of personal & commercial lines policies.
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Exposure to building datasets and performing queries.
