About the position

As a dedicated Business Intelligence Analyst I at USAA, you will play a crucial role in analyzing complex business problems and issues by utilizing data from both internal and external sources. Your insights will be invaluable to analysts and decision-makers, as you will identify and interpret trends and patterns within datasets to uncover influences that can drive business decisions. You will be responsible for creating specifications for reports and analyses based on business needs and the data elements that are available or required. This role may also involve consultation with users and participation in multi-functional teams to address various business issues. Additionally, you will prototype solutions for displaying information tailored to business needs, ensuring that the final products effectively communicate the necessary insights. In this position, you will independently capture sophisticated business requirements by collaborating with customers to define the business problems and data needs. You will leverage your intermediate understanding of multiple data structures and sources to lead the development and implementation of business intelligence solutions, which may encompass data visualization, data transformation, or data collection. Close collaboration with IT execution teams will be essential as you work on the development of analytic infrastructures and data engineering efforts. You will also apply data visualization standard processes, selecting the appropriate data tools to identify and interpret trends or patterns while adhering to standard enterprise branding. Your role will require you to understand the importance of prototyping, usability, and the end-user experience to enhance the impact of the final data visualization products, such as dashboards, reports, insights, or analyses. Acting as a trusted data visualization advisor, you will drive business value by developing advanced knowledge that influences relevant data, information, and application architecture decisions. Furthermore, you will actively participate in industry groups or panels to stay ahead of trends and share best practices with your team. Ensuring that risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies will also be a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Independently participates in capturing sophisticated business requirements by partnering with customers to define the business problem and data needs.
  • Uses an intermediate understanding of multiple data structures and sources to lead the development and implementation of business intelligence solutions, which may include data visualization, data transformation, or data collection.
  • Works closely with IT execution teams on the development of analytic infrastructures, data engineering, or related business intelligence efforts.
  • Applies data visualization standard processes to identify and interpret trends or patterns while following standard Enterprise branding.
  • Understands the value of prototyping, usability, and the end-user experience to improve the impact of the final data visualization product.
  • Acts as a trusted data visualization advisor to the partner/end-user in order to drive business value.
  • Develops advanced knowledge to influence relevant data, information, and application architecture decisions.
  • Actively participates in industry, COE, or other discipline-relevant groups/panels to stay ahead of industry trends and share standard methodologies with team.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative analytics field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science or other business-related subject area; OR 4 years of related experience in statistics, mathematics or quantitative analytics or related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of experience in data/analytics or functional business experience within the respective industry of responsibility (i.e. P&C, Bank, Finance, etc.) OR advanced degree in quantitative analytics field with 2 years experience in data/analytics or functional business experience within the respective industry.
  • Experience identifying and implementing innovative ways to address business problems and solutions.
  • Experience developing business deliverables that leverage business intelligence platforms, data management platforms, or SQL-based languages (Tableau, Business Objects, Snowflake, Hadoop, Netezza, NoSQL, ANSI SQL, or related).
  • Demonstrable ability to build business knowledge through significant partnerships at the individual contributor, leadership, and EMG levels.
  • Demonstrated advanced communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations to all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated ability to embed intuitive storytelling within business intelligence solutions.
