About the position

The Business Intelligence Analyst at UTHealth Houston plays a crucial role in leveraging clinical, operational, and financial data analytics to drive impactful business decisions. This position involves data collection, analysis, visualization, and reporting to provide actionable insights that enhance decision-making processes within the healthcare setting. The analyst will be responsible for fulfilling diverse reporting needs, conducting gap analyses, creating visualizations, developing KPIs, and supporting optimization projects.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and make recommendations for project implementations and maintenance, understanding the data available in applicable business systems and writing queries.
  • Assist in the development and ongoing reporting of performance metrics and benchmarking to keep business leaders informed of progress towards goals.
  • Support timely flow of business intelligence information to users by meeting deadlines and being responsive to requests.
  • Provide technical support for existing reports, dashboards, or other tools, maintaining excellent documentation of systems and report methodologies.
  • Communicate with internal customers, suppliers, and others to stay abreast of industry or business trends, using effective communication and problem-solving techniques.
  • Conduct quality testing to ensure accuracy of data reported.
  • Serve as a liaison between Management and Technology project teams.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Business, or a related field required.
  • Three (3) years of system analysis, technical design, development, and/or implementation experience, including 1 year of experience working with healthcare operations strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Experience with Cognos, Oracle, and SQL database reporting tools.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with prudent judgment and discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience defining metrics, dimensions, and KPIs on Business Intelligence projects.
  • Experience in working with large volumes of data preferred.
