About the position

The Business Intelligence Analyst position at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP is a full-time role focused on providing comprehensive business and legal research support to practice group attorneys and staff. The analyst will be responsible for conducting in-depth research on key industries and law firm competitors, thereby enhancing the Firm's knowledge of relevant current awareness. This role requires a proactive approach to research, utilizing various resources to deliver concise, objective, and meaningful results that support the Firm's strategic objectives. In this position, the analyst will conduct efficient and cost-effective research, assisting attorneys and Firm personnel in accessing the most appropriate sources. The role also involves onboarding, orientation, and training of new attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to utilize the Firm's resources effectively. Building subject matter expertise in the Firm's practice areas is crucial, as it allows the analyst to derive actionable insights that can inform decision-making processes. The Business Intelligence Analyst will leverage both internal and external data to identify market trends, client movements, and opportunities, providing actionable information to requestors. This includes performing complex research requests and supporting large intelligence projects as assigned. Staying updated on changes in current awareness resources and proactively implementing improvements to the Firm's current awareness program is essential to ensure maximum value is delivered to requestors. Additionally, the analyst will engage with new hires to provide current awareness support, manage alerts and newsletters, and offer legal research services as needed. Participation in professional networking and associations is encouraged, as is the ability to adapt to changing priorities and scheduling. The role may also require participation in rotating weekend coverage and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct efficient and cost-effective research support to attorneys and Firm personnel using appropriate sources.
  • Assist with the onboarding, orientation, and training of attorneys, paralegals, and administrative departments.
  • Build subject matter expertise in the Firm's practice areas to derive and support actionable insights.
  • Leverage internal and external data to identify opportunities, market trends, and client movements.
  • Perform complex research requests and support large intelligence projects as assigned.
  • Keep up to date on changes and developments in current awareness resources and proactively implement changes.
  • Engage with new hires to provide current awareness support by managing alerts and newsletters.
  • Provide legal research services to attorneys and staff as needed.
  • Participate in professional networking and actively engage in professional associations and online communities.
  • Participate in rotating weekend coverage and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of Marketing or Legal research experience preferably in a law firm or corporate environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to scheduling changes and shifts in priorities.
  • Proficient in utilizing resources including Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg, BloombergLaw, Capital IQ, Deal Point Data, Manzama, and Newsdesk.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products, especially Excel and PowerPoint, as well as SharePoint.
  • Customer-service oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Process-oriented with great attention to detail and technical acuity.
  • Superior organizational skills and a demonstrated commitment to the accuracy and completeness of information.

Nice-to-haves

  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science or Master's of Business Administration.
