About the position

The Business Intelligence Analyst position at the University of North Texas (UNT) is a pivotal role within the Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research (DAIR) department. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to a team of dedicated data and analytics professionals. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with both internal and external stakeholders to support a variety of institutional research and analytic initiatives. The primary focus of this role is to assist in the ongoing development and implementation of SAS Business Intelligence tools, specifically SAS Visual Analytics and SAS Visual Statistics. These tools are essential for creating and maintaining analytic dashboards, collectively referred to as the Insights Program, which are intended for widespread distribution within the UNT community. In this role, the Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for several key functions. Firstly, they will perform data analysis, generate analytics, and effectively communicate results that involve institutional data. Secondly, the analyst will assist the Director of Institutional Research in building relationships with functional and technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design reports and dashboards that address critical institutional initiatives. Additionally, the analyst will play a vital role in advancing the data landscape within the DAIR department, ensuring that the team remains at the forefront of data analytics in higher education. The position requires a commitment to collaboration and communication, as the analyst will provide direct support to both internal and external stakeholders, manage relationships with data providers and end users, and facilitate communication regarding changes, enhancements, and new analytics and data resources. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about data and its potential to drive decision-making and improve institutional effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain student data sources and existing dashboards within the SAS VA environment and build new dashboards.
  • Provide and analyze data on students and other variables as required to report to internal and external constituencies.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of SAS for statistical analyses.
  • Complete research projects and provide summary reports of the findings.
  • Work as a liaison between internal and external functional and technical subject matter experts (SMEs) and data stewards to enhance ad hoc reporting and data visualizations.
  • Work as a collaborative team member who shares expertise, individual knowledge, and skills through working closely with others to increase value to the University.
  • Respond and consult with users to assist them in understanding reports and data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and five years of professional experience in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to analyze data, including numerical detail, identify patterns or trends, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to present various data in clear concise forms to a variety of audiences.
  • Basic working knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, legal statutes, and analysis and reporting of financial data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Excellent writing, oral communication, and computer skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and SAS programming.
  • A Master's Degree in a related field and two years of data analysis work experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in an institutional research setting.
  • Basic working knowledge of student data sources including financial aid, admissions, and student records.
