About the position

The Business Intelligence / ETL Cognos Developer (Information Systems Specialist 7) position at the Oregon Department of Justice involves supporting the Child Support Technology Team in developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions. This role focuses on creating and managing reporting systems for program research analysts, mentoring junior developers, and providing on-call support for ETL processes. The position is hybrid, allowing for remote work while requiring occasional office presence, and aims to enhance the effectiveness of the Child Support Program in Oregon.

Responsibilities

• Develop, design, and maintain DataStage ETL jobs.
• Perform root cause analysis and address existing issues.
• Use SQL, DB2, and Infosphere Information Server for programming tasks.
• Utilize Cognos software for developing reports based on business needs.
• Conduct system analysis to support current and future business needs.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance system interfaces.
• Create program specifications, detailed program design, and operational documentation.
• Write new programs and maintain existing programs using relational databases.
• Adhere to Child Support Technology Services standards and version controls.
• Analyze performance issues and develop, test, and implement resolutions.
• Respond to non-critical system stoppages and provide timely solutions.
• Work closely with customers to define detailed system requirements and design.
• Ensure version compatibility between new releases and existing systems.
• Evaluate and test new products for compatibility with internal and external systems.
• Perform batch cycle support for reporting, including after-hours support.
• Mentor junior-level developers in diagnosing and solving system-related problems.

Requirements

• Six (6) years of information systems experience with ETL and Business Intelligence development, implementation, and support.
• Education in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field can count as experience.
• Practical experience using Cognos and strong SQL skills.
• Strong data warehousing knowledge and ability to understand complex database structures.
• Experience in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) activities, including requirements, design, development, testing, and maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate conflicting needs and adapt to rapid changes in business processes.
