About the position

The Business Intelligence Technical Analyst position is designed to support the business intelligence (BI) architecture of Decision Support, focusing on the technical infrastructure of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), BI applications, and related systems environment. This role is crucial in maintaining the operational reliability of BI systems, planning for capacity, and ensuring effective disaster recovery mechanisms. The analyst will be responsible for the administration of applications that provide BI services, data movement services, data science services, and data virtualization services. This includes the design and configuration of software, overall management of applications, and collaboration with staff involved in daily operations. Additionally, the analyst will support research and evaluation activities related to new technologies that enhance data storage, analytics, and business intelligence capabilities. A significant aspect of this role involves designing, managing, and monitoring security processes related to the Data Warehouse and BI security. The analyst will provision security access as requested, ensuring compliance with operational procedures, and will monitor security operations to maintain adherence to university and departmental policies. The position also entails providing operational support for university-wide systems utilized by students, employees, and university clients, requiring collaboration with IT professionals across the University of Illinois. The analyst will participate in an on-call rotation to support operational systems, ensuring that all systems function smoothly and efficiently. Miscellaneous duties include conducting research to identify opportunities for improving the BI architecture and product delivery, focusing on new industry products and trends. The analyst will also identify methods to collect operational metrics to measure return on investment and analyze systems for increased efficiency. Serving as the principal analyst for BI Environment Management activities, the analyst will collaborate with project management teams and database administration teams to manage testing, security, risk analysis, and quality assurance for ongoing Data Warehouse releases. The role requires monitoring production, test, QA, and development environments, escalating issues as necessary, and participating in committees and projects to meet enterprise objectives. Overall, this position is integral to the success of the BI architecture and decision support initiatives within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Administer applications providing Business Intelligence (BI) services, Data Movement services, Data Science services, and Data Virtualization services.
  • Design, manage, and monitor security design processes related to the security of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence security.
  • Provide operational support for university-wide systems used by students, employees, and university clients.
  • Conduct research to identify opportunities for improving the BI Architecture and Decision Support product delivery.
  • Identify methods to collect operational metrics in support of measurement of return on investment, usage analysis, and security analysis.
  • Serve as principal analyst for BI Environment Management activities, collaborating with the Project Management team and Database Administration team.
  • Monitor production, test, QA, and development Business Intelligence environments and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Participate in committees and projects for AITS and partner organizations to meet enterprise objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, or IT systems integration.
  • College coursework in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, or a closely related discipline.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a relevant area.
  • Two years of experience with relevant platforms (Windows Server, Linux, and Oracle).
  • Two years of experience with software application management.
  • One year of experience creating and maintaining standardized procedures.
