About the position

We are currently seeking both Junior and Senior level CAD Technicians to join our Southwest Region team located in Texas. The ideal candidates will play a crucial role in the coordination and oversight of geometric design projects, contributing to the successful execution of various engineering tasks. In this position, you will assist engineers in creating detailed plans for bridge projects using MicroStation, as well as perform minor design work on roadway projects utilizing both MicroStation and AutoCAD Civil 3D. Your responsibilities will include contributing to project production sheets by adding dimensions and laying out plans, title, and detail sheets. You will also be tasked with preparing minor mathematical calculations and quantity calculations for roadway and bridge projects, ensuring that all designs comply with applicable codes and guidelines. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with engineers to develop 3D models using Open Road Designer and Open Bridge Designer. You will be responsible for coordinating assignments with the project team and supervisor, performing quality control reviews of design plans and calculations, and assisting other groups as needed. This position requires a team player who is self-motivated and capable of exercising initiative and independent judgment in solving work-related problems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to engineers using MicroStation to create bridge detail plans and perform minor design work on bridge projects.
  • Provide assistance to engineers using MicroStation/Autocad Civil 3D to create roadway plan sets and perform minor design work on roadway projects.
  • Contribute to project production sheets by adding dimensions and laying out plans, title and detail sheets on production sets of plans.
  • Prepare minor mathematical calculations and quantity calculations for roadway/bridge projects.
  • Work with engineers to develop 3D models using both Open Road Designer and Open Bridge Designer.
  • Research applicable design codes and guidelines to ensure design compliance.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Coordinate assignments with project team and supervisor.
  • Perform quality control reviews of design plans and calculations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Be a team player and assist other groups as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from a technical or four-year school.
  • 3-15 years of prior experience with structural and/or roadway drafting.
  • Under 3 years experience will be evaluated if applicant has a degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar field.
  • Degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar field is preferred.
  • Familiar with GEOPAK or other geometry software.
  • Familiar with TxDOT Bridge Detailing Manual and applicable bridge standards preferred.
  • Experience in Open Road Designer is preferred.
  • Experience in Autodesk Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team environment.
