The Career Counselor at Barry University plays a pivotal role in providing comprehensive career counseling services to students and alumni. This position involves assisting individuals and groups with various career-related issues, including resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, networking, and job search techniques. The Career Counselor is responsible for coordinating both industry-specific and campus-wide career events, fostering relationships with academic departments, and engaging in outreach activities with employers. Additionally, the role includes managing social media platforms, creating engaging content, and utilizing graphic design tools for career guidance and event promotion. The Career Counselor will also teach one section of ORI 300 per semester, a one-credit Career Readiness class that is open to all students and required for business school students. Furthermore, they may teach one of the ORI 100 First Year Experience Seminars, which is also a one-credit class open to all first-year students. This multifaceted role requires a proactive approach to career development, including the research of experiential education programs and the development of campus programs that support career readiness, such as job shadowing and mentorship opportunities. In addition to counseling and teaching, the Career Counselor will create and present various career programs and workshops aimed at enhancing student career outcomes. They will utilize technology, social media, and career platforms to optimize students' chances of finding employment. The position also involves hiring, training, and supervising peer career coaches (student workers) and developing collaborative relationships with academic and non-academic departments across campus to improve career opportunities and resources for students. The Career Counselor will also assist with overall Career and Experiential department events and engage in outreach and networking with local, regional, and national employers to cultivate professional relationships.
