About the position

The Carpenter II position at the University of Central Missouri is a full-time role focused on general building maintenance and carpentry tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of maintenance activities, including replacing drop ceiling tiles, repairing damaged floor tiles, and installing bath accessories and towel bars. Additionally, the role involves adjusting and changing door closers, caulking window leaks, building and installing new interior doors, and patching and repairing sheetrock walls. The Carpenter II will also be tasked with repairing office furniture, bath partitions, and cement sidewalks, as well as mounting outside furniture in cement. This position plays a crucial role in preparing the University for significant events such as commencements. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional nights and weekends required. The role is classified as nonexempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is part of a bargaining unit. The position is located on the Warrensburg Campus and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, paid vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays. Additionally, the University offers generous education assistance for employees and their dependents taking classes at UCM.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general building maintenance tasks including replacing drop ceiling tiles and damaged floor tiles.
  • Repair torn carpet and install bath accessories and towel bars.
  • Adjust and change door closers and caulk window leaks.
  • Build and install new interior doors and patch/repair sheetrock walls.
  • Repair office furniture and bath partitions.
  • Patch cement sidewalks and mount outside furniture in cement.
  • Prepare the University for commencements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of related trade school or military experience may substitute for experience on a 1-year for 1-year basis.
  • Four years of carpentry experience as a seasoned tradesperson.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in carpentry skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work manuals.
  • Basic math skills and knowledge of materials, supplies, and hardware.
  • Understanding of current building codes and ADA requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with managing multiple concurrent projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and nonverbal communication.
