About the position

We are seeking a full-time Cartography Technician Intern in our Yarmouth, ME location. In this role, you will be responsible for the creation, edition, evaluation, and maintenance of cartographic data for use in Garmin products, in compliance with established methodology and processes. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of cartography while working closely with experienced professionals in a supportive environment. As a Cartography Technician Intern, you will work under the close supervision of a supervisor or mentor, following specific, detailed instructions. You will communicate the status of your work clearly to your supervisor or mentor, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. Your primary responsibilities will include creating, editing, and maintaining cartographic data using Garmin-proprietary and/or third-party software. You will also complete well-defined basic cartography tasks and identify and resolve simple issues using proper cartography techniques. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will submit your work for peer review to ensure product integrity and act on feedback provided by your peers. You will participate in cartographic data evaluation, processing, and verification using established methodology, demonstrating your drive to develop product and process enhancements on features and settings related to your assigned tasks. This internship is designed to help you build your skills and knowledge in cartography while contributing to Garmin's mission of providing high-quality mapping products.

Responsibilities

  • Work under close supervision of supervisor or mentor, following specific, detailed instructions and communicates status of work clearly to supervisor or mentor
  • Create, edit and/or maintain cartographic data using Garmin-proprietary and/or third-party software
  • Complete well-defined basic cartography tasks
  • Identify and resolve simple issues using proper cartography techniques
  • Submit work for peer review to ensure product integrity and act on feedback
  • Participate in cartographic data evaluation, processing and verification using established methodology
  • Demonstrate drive to develop product and process enhancements on features and settings on assigned tasks

Requirements

  • Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Geosciences or related field OR equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Basic working knowledge and understanding of digital cartographic principles relevant to Garmin's business needs
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with PC applications in a Windows environment
  • Ability to learn/understand established processes/tools and apply them to daily tasks
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal/technical communication skills
  • Able to document work thoroughly/in an organized manner
  • Enthusiastic attitude with a strong sense of commitment, accountability and urgency
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve goals

Nice-to-haves

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Understanding of Garmin's Cartography Development Process
