About the position

The Caseworker position at the American Red Cross involves providing emergency assistance to military members and their families through the Hero Care Center. This role requires collecting and verifying information to assist military commands with emergency leave decisions and offering financial assistance to eligible clients. The position operates 24/7, ensuring support is available at all times, and emphasizes a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews callers and coordinates requests for service, recording all client information in the case management system.
  • Determines eligibility for American Red Cross services and assesses client needs to provide appropriate services.
  • Performs related case activities including obtaining verifications and delivering messages to military locations.
  • Coordinates case management services with other Red Cross units and provides follow-up actions for timely client service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required, including one year in a social service agency or service contact center.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and military community is required.
  • At least one year of customer-focused experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a typing speed of 40 wpm or higher.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, including use of Internet search tools and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using an electronic customer relationship management (CRM) or Case Management System (CMS).
  • Ability to apply active listening skills and employ reasoning and questioning strategies.
  • Adept at multi-tasking and shifting focus as operational needs demand.
  • Demonstrated ability to treat people with respect and instill trust in others.
