About the position

The Account Executive Officer (AEO) for National Accounts at Travelers Insurance is a pivotal role that focuses on providing casualty solutions for clients with significant risk. This includes coverages such as Workers' Compensation, General and Product Liability, and Commercial Automobile Liability. The AEO will work closely with agents, brokers, and customers to deliver guaranteed cost and loss-sensitive coverage tailored to the specific needs of new and renewal business. This position is recognized as a technical resource within the organization, requiring a decisive and detail-oriented individual who excels at building relationships both internally and externally to drive results. The AEO will independently assess complex risks and effectively sell Travelers' products in challenging markets, contributing to the overall profitability and success of the company. In this role, the AEO will manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business. Responsibilities include underwriting and skillfully negotiating complex customer accounts to minimize risk while maximizing profitability. The AEO will cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners across the business unit and the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities. Regular in-person meetings with agents, brokers, and customers are essential to market and sell Travelers products, with the goal of writing and retaining accounts that align with the company's risk appetite. The AEO will also identify and capture new business opportunities through consultative marketing and sales skills, recognizing that the sales process for new accounts can take six months to a year. Additionally, the AEO may assist in training and mentoring less experienced Account Executives and will perform other duties as assigned. This role is integral to the success of the National Accounts team and requires a strong understanding of the insurance market, financial acumen, and excellent communication skills to negotiate effectively in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents, brokers, and customers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and frequently partner with your Managing Director to develop region/group sales plans.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced Account Executives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in National Accounts.
  • Deep knowledge of loss sensitive products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Deep financial acumen.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
  • 4 years of underwriting experience.
