About the position

The Salty Category Strategist at Hershey will play a pivotal role in leveraging insights and the category management toolkit to achieve and surpass financial objectives for both Hershey and its customers. This position is designed for an individual who is an expert in applying insights to drive growth and establish thought leadership within the category. The strategist will synthesize various business trends, competitive insights, shopper behavior, and financial data to identify opportunities and develop solutions that enhance conversion rates and shopper satisfaction throughout the entire shopping journey, which includes both brick-and-mortar and eCommerce platforms. In this role, the Category Strategist will be instrumental in influencing the development and execution of category initiatives that support the Joint Business Planning (JBP) with Walmart and Sam's Club. The strategist will act as a trusted partner and category expert, ensuring that strategic business plans are executed effectively to meet topline sales, net sales, and category share targets. This involves providing management with comprehensive, consumer-based insights and actionable recommendations derived from data collected through various analytical tools such as Circana (IRI), Nielsen Shelf Architect, and Placer.ai. The strategist will also be responsible for performing line reviews and constructing planograms using Space Planning (JDA) to facilitate incremental category growth. They will ideate, develop, and test strategic solutions that enhance the customer experience, showcasing these solutions through advanced storytelling techniques using tools like PowerBI and Excel. Establishing oneself as the leading provider of category strategies and expertise within the Walmart/Sam's Club partnership and the internal team is a key expectation of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Category Expert and trusted partner to support the execution of strategic business plans and Joint Business Planning process driving goals for topline sales, net sales, and category share targets.
  • Provide management with objective, comprehensive, consumer-based insights and actionable recommendations based on data compiled using tools such as Circana (IRI), Circana Scan Panel, Numerator Insights, and Nielsen Shelf Architect.
  • Synthesize actionable insights using retailer data, internal/syndicated data sources, and shopper insights.
  • Effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders to align on category initiatives.
  • Perform line reviews and build planograms using Space Planning (JDA) to support incremental category growth.
  • Ideate, develop, and test strategic solutions that enhance the customer experience, demonstrated through advanced storytelling skills using tools such as Mekko PPT Charts and PowerBI.
  • Establish yourself as the leading provider of category strategies and expertise with Walmart/Sam's Club and within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 3-7 years of Category Management and/or CPG Sales experience.
  • Strong data storytelling capabilities through strategic use of tools such as PowerPoint Charts and/or Mekko.
  • Ability to build dynamic customer relationships to expand scope of influence and drive excellence in store-level execution.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in leveraging analytic tools such as Circana (IRI), Circana Scan Panel, and Numerator Insights to derive meaningful insights.
  • Working knowledge of space analytics and tools such as Space Planning (JDA).
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with a team while demonstrating a proactive mindset and strong initiative.
