About the position

The Central Sterile OR Liaison plays a crucial role in facilitating a close working relationship between the Sterile Processing department and the Operating Room (OR). This position is primarily focused on anticipating the needs of the surgical team and bridging the gap between departments to ensure surgeon satisfaction, successful case completion, and effective interdepartmental communication. The liaison is responsible for maintaining high standards of patient quality care and safety by utilizing problem-solving and critical thinking skills. This role requires a proactive approach to identify potential issues before they arise and to implement solutions that enhance the efficiency of surgical operations. In addition to fostering collaboration between departments, the Central Sterile OR Liaison will be involved in training and educating staff on best practices related to sterile processing and surgical procedures. This includes ensuring that all team members are knowledgeable about the necessary medical supplies and instrumentation required for various surgical procedures. The liaison will also be responsible for monitoring compliance with infection control principles and regulatory practices, ensuring that all operations adhere to established standards. The position requires a strong understanding of OR routines and the ability to manage instrument tracking systems effectively. The liaison will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and sterile processing technicians to ensure that all instruments and supplies are available and ready for use during surgical procedures. This role is vital in maintaining the flow of operations in the OR and ensuring that patient care is prioritized at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a close working relationship between Sterile Processing and the Operating Room.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure surgeon satisfaction and case completion.
  • Bridge the gap between departments to enhance interdepartmental communication.
  • Utilize problem-solving and critical thinking skills to address issues that arise during surgical operations.
  • Train and educate staff on best practices related to sterile processing and surgical procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with infection control principles and regulatory practices.
  • Manage instrument tracking systems effectively, preferably Microsystems (SPM).
  • Ensure that all necessary medical supplies and instrumentation are available for surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited sterile processing or surgical technology course.
  • Three years of collective experience in the Peri-Operative environment, including both Sterile Processing and the Operating Room.
  • Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician from IAHCSMM or CSPD within one year of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of surgical procedures and competency for medical supplies and instrumentation necessary to perform these procedures.
  • Three years of case cart knowledge and experience.
  • Experience with Instrument Management Tracking systems, preferably Microsystems (SPM).
  • Knowledge of OR routines, infection control principles, and regulatory practices.
