About the position

The Ceramic/Chemical Engineer position at Vitro involves directing the batching, melting, and forming operations within the Tank Department to meet plant goals related to safety, quality, production, costs, productivity, and employee relations. The role requires close coordination with various teams to ensure efficient operations and continuous improvement in glass quality.

Responsibilities

  • Direct batching, melting, and forming operations in the Tank Department.
  • Coordinate and direct production activities of the batch plant, tanks, baths, and lehrs.
  • Make decisions to meet unit goals regarding safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Conduct frequent tours of the department to engage with Supervisors and production engineers.
  • Review and analyze production and quality reports, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with the Wareroom, Quality Control, and other staff functions to ensure efficient operations.
  • Make recommendations for new methods, equipment, and improvements in glass quality.
  • Inspect tank refractory structures and coordinate ordering of materials and supplies.
  • Stay updated on technological improvements through contact with Vitro Research and other facilities.
  • Coordinate efficient scheduling of manpower and administer training and safety programs.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in ceramic or chemical engineering.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in production or process engineering, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • General knowledge of float glass batch, melting, and forming processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership, judgment, and administrative ability.
