About the position

The Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) position at Central Oregon Community College (COCC) is a part-time, temporary role focused on providing practical flight and ground instruction to degree-seeking students in both airplane and helicopter career paths. The instructor is responsible for maintaining compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, ensuring that all student paperwork is accurately completed and up to date. This role requires a strong commitment to student safety and effective communication, as the CFI must document student progress and oversee all aspects of flight operations, including planning and dispatching flights, preparing necessary FAA paperwork, and being present during student solo flights. In addition to instructional duties, the CFI will collaborate with COCC's full-time faculty to address any issues related to student performance and progress. The instructor has the authority to remove students from flight status if they pose a safety threat and must work closely with aircraft leasing companies to ensure the safety and maintenance of the aircraft used in training. The position requires a high level of professionalism and the ability to work in a dynamic environment, as the CFI will interact with students, staff, faculty, and external representatives regularly. The CFI role is essential in fostering a safe and effective learning environment for students pursuing careers in aviation.
