Certified Hand Therapist CHT - Outpatient

About the position

MedStar Health is looking for a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) to join our team at MHPT @ Irving Street - Hand Center! We are looking for a licensed CHT with professional competency as a general practitioner in occupational or physical therapy, demonstrated independent use of varied evaluation and treatment approaches, initiative in following through with all procedures and policies, and effective communication skills. As an Occupational / Physical Therapist with the Certified Hand Therapist credential, you will provide therapeutic interventions to prevent dysfunction restore function and/or reverse the progression of pathology of the upper limb (hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder) to enhance an individual's ability to perform tasks and participate fully in daily life situations. Using specialized skills in assessment, planning and treatments, CHT's assist with improving upper limb function, alleviating pain, and preventing disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed therapy as outlined by treatment plan and in accordance with practice guidelines. A comprehensive knowledge of the structure of the upper limb is required. Responsibilities

• Provides evaluation services including review of pertinent historical information, performance of specific assessments, and determination of recommendations and documentation of results.
• Explains evaluation findings and treatment plan to patient and family and incorporates patient and family in the goals setting.
• Demonstrates proficiency in implementation of treatment protocols based upon evaluation findings and the patient's presentation and the evolving health care environment.
• Consults with other healthcare professionals as indicated.
• Recognizes and documents changes in patient's condition requiring modification of the plan of care and/or the need for medical/rehabilitation consultation.
• Completes appropriate discharge planning and follow-up care.
• Accurately and timely documents and charges for patient care activities considering our evolving health care environment.
• Demonstrates effective time management and meets productivity expectations.
• Manages an accurate schedule.
• Demonstrates a professional commitment to provide frictionless patient access to care through flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and actions/behaviors that display empathy in our patient consumer driven environment.
• Takes initiative in pursuing and directing continuing education for professional growth and competency for self and organization.
• Serves as a clinical instructor to assigned students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy/ Physical Therapy, or High School Diploma or GED of an accredited school of Occupational/ Physical Therapy.
• 3 years of experience as an occupational physical therapist with 4,000 hours (about 5 and a half months) or more in direct practice in hand therapy.
• Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia licensure required as deemed necessary for your specific location(s).
• Successful completion of the CHT (Certified Hand Therapist) exam as administered by the HTCC.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Every CHT is required to demonstrate continued professional development and competency by recertifying every five years.
