About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) position at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper is a full-time role focused on providing clinical and administrative support in a healthcare setting. The CMA will work under the supervision of licensed medical practitioners to ensure high standards of patient care, assist with various medical tasks, and contribute to a collaborative healthcare environment. This role emphasizes effective communication, teamwork, and technical competence in delivering patient care and administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical support under the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and general support in accordance with UVA Health policies.
  • Record and relay patient information, symptoms, and concerns to medical providers.
  • Complete standardized rooming and perform clinical intake and health data collection.
  • Implement age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs.
  • Reinforce patient/family teaching plans based on identified health education needs.
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members and patients.
  • Organize and prioritize daily work assignments to support patient needs and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare laboratory specimens and perform point of care testing, ECG/EKG, and venipuncture.
  • Document and capture charges for clinical support services rendered during patient visits.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or RMA credentials required within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Ability to complete general and department role-based specific skills validation and competency testing.
