About the position

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) at Gracedale Nursing Home plays a crucial role in supporting the professional nursing staff by providing essential resident care and performing various nonprofessional services that cater to the personal needs and comfort of the residents. This position is vital in ensuring that residents receive the highest quality of care, as it involves direct interaction with them and requires a compassionate approach to their needs. The CNA is responsible for delivering resident care as directed by a Nursing Supervisor, Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), while adhering to established departmental policies and procedures, safety standards, and infection control protocols. In this role, the CNA will be expected to answer resident call bells to assess their needs, assist nurses or physicians in providing care, change bed linens, and document observations regarding resident behavior and physical symptoms. The CNA will also prepare and serve food trays, assist residents with eating, and measure and record vital signs and other health-related data. Maintaining resident confidentiality is paramount, and the CNA must ensure that all documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner. The position requires the ability to utilize proper body mechanics to prevent personal injury while providing physical support to residents in their daily living activities. The CNA must possess a strong understanding of resident care procedures in a long-term care facility and demonstrate the skills necessary to operate various equipment safely and efficiently. This includes mechanical lifts and shower equipment, as well as the ability to transport residents in wheelchairs or specialty chairs. Proficient interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as the CNA will work closely with geriatric patients and their families. The role also requires the ability to enter information into a computer database and perform basic mathematical functions as needed. Overall, the CNA is a vital member of the healthcare team, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents at Gracedale Nursing Home.

Responsibilities

  • Answer resident call bells to determine resident needs.
  • Assist nurses or physicians in the provision of resident care.
  • Change bed linens and/or make beds.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply restraints as directed by nursing.
  • Document or report observations of resident behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
  • Prepare and serve food trays and assist residents with eating or drinking.
  • Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to nursing staff.
  • Observe and report any symptoms that may require medical attention, including bruises, open wounds, or changes in vital signs.
  • Provide physical support to assist residents in daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and walking.
  • Obtain and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration rate as directed by nursing.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics to prevent personal injury.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and avoid discussing residents in public areas.
  • Complete daily documentation on the care provided to each resident accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Enter resident data into a database and perform simple math functions.

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
  • Eighteen (18) years or older.
  • Graduation from a State-approved training program.
  • Current CNA license in good standing with the State licensing board.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with valid proof of vaccination.

Nice-to-haves
