About the position

Willamette Family is looking for passionate people that have a passion for giving back. Our Peer Support Specialists (PSS) are self-identified people in recovery from a substance use disorder or mental health disorder or a family member of a former recipient of addiction treatment. Under general supervision, PSS will work directly with individuals in Willamette Family men’s and women’s residential programs by assisting in the promotion of abstinence, self-sufficiency, and self-determination. The PSS works in helping teach concepts of health promotion involving physical, mental, and social well-being and removing all other identified barriers to recovery. Willamette Family is a longstanding substance use treatment and behavioral healthcare provider that strives to support our community. Willamette Family was recently accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), noting that we meet or exceed the national standards for excellence in behavioral healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with individuals in residential programs.
  • Assist in the promotion of abstinence, self-sufficiency, and self-determination.
  • Teach concepts of health promotion involving physical, mental, and social well-being.
  • Help remove identified barriers to recovery.

Requirements

  • Must be on the Oregon Health Authority Traditional Health Worker Registry or registered with MHACBO as CRM.
  • Self-identified individual formerly receiving addictions or mental health services or in recovery from an addiction.
  • Acquainted with local community resources.
  • Good verbal, written, and computer skills.
  • Must maintain confidentiality in accordance with Willamette Family policy, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Available on-site; must be located in Eugene, OR area or be willing to commute.
  • Criminal background check conducted by the Department of Human Services Background Check Unit.
  • Pre-employment drug screening (including THC).

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive for Willamette Family per policy, with no infractions within the last 3 years.
