About the position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist in processing medication orders for both inpatient and outpatient services. This role involves a variety of responsibilities within the pharmacy, including preparing medications, managing prescription orders, and ensuring compliance with state regulations. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in preparation of medications for patients in inpatient and outpatient service areas.
  • Accept new written, faxed, or electronic prescription orders from prescribers or their agents.
  • Enter and retrieve information from electronic health records or prescription processing systems.
  • Prepare and affix labels, stock prescription drugs, and retrieve drugs from inventory.
  • Count and pour drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist.
  • Perform non-sterile drug compounding as per United States Pharmacopeia guidelines.
  • Stock automated drug dispensing cabinets and transport medications to off-site locations.
  • Accept verbal refill authorizations for non-controlled substances as permitted by state law.
  • Assist in the education and precepting of new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students.
  • Perform diagnostic laboratory testing as defined in state laws/guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • ExCPT Certification or PTCB certification and registration with State Board of Pharmacy (required).
  • Valid state driver's license (required).
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of ASHP/ACPE tech training program or pharmacy technician training via Armed Forces/Veterans Affairs (preferred).
  • Previous experience in Retail, Ambulatory, Outpatient, Hospital, Acute Care, or Home Infusion pharmacy (preferred).
