About the position

Battelle's Advanced Materials and Energetics Group is seeking a Chemical Engineer III to perform advanced research and analysis, contribute to Internal Research & Development projects, support business development, and communicate with clients. This role is essential for driving innovation and ensuring the successful execution of technical projects in Columbus, OH.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.
  • Analyzes and interprets data collected.
  • Prepares technical reports and makes presentations to clients, both formal and informal.
  • Conducts and/or leads small technical projects or phases of technical projects.
  • May provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraints.
  • Assists with proposal efforts and may prepare technical sections of proposals with review.
  • Builds relationships with internal and external clients and presents research results.
  • Communicates with clients on smaller projects regarding the schedule and quality of deliverables.
  • Contributes to IR&D studies.
  • Prepares invention disclosures and may provide inputs for new areas of business.
  • Supports business development efforts led by others and secures follow-on work.
  • May assist with the coordination of and participation in Battelle-sponsored conferences.
  • May participate in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and increases company visibility through publications.
  • Oversees, mentors and trains lower-level staff.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with 5 years of experience, M.S. in related field with 3 years of experience, or PhD.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent Battelle or its clients at conferences or public forums.
  • Good laboratory and documentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in engineering model development.
  • Experience using computer programming to analyze complex data sets (ex: Python, Matlab).
