About the position

The Chemical Engineer I position at MacDermid Alpha Electronic Solutions is a pivotal role that involves collaboration with various internal teams, including engineers and chemists, to drive process and product development initiatives. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the development and launch of innovative chemistries aimed at supporting the company's growth in the semiconductor market, particularly focusing on scaling up Active Copper products. This role requires a hands-on approach, as the engineer will be responsible for making and packaging lab and pilot scale batches while adhering to safe laboratory practices. In addition to batch production, the Chemical Engineer will operate equipment necessary for transitioning products from the lab to production scale. This includes reviewing orders for raw materials, conducting experiments as directed by project leaders, and collecting and consolidating data to communicate results effectively to stakeholders. The engineer will also evaluate raw materials and equipment, making recommendations to enhance product quality and ensure process safety and efficiency. A significant aspect of this role involves supporting the scaling of production processes from pilot to high-volume manufacturing. This includes developing robust manufacturing instructions, validating full-scale batches, and training manufacturing operators. The engineer will also manage shelf-life studies, maintain equipment calibration records, and ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, making this a dynamic and engaging position within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Makes and packages lab/pilot scale batches following instructions and safe lab practices
  • Operates related equipment involved in making products from lab to production scale
  • Reviews orders including raw materials availability and plans accordingly to meet product ship date
  • Carries out experiments provided by project leader or manager
  • Collects and consolidates data during experiments and effectively communicates results with key stakeholders and colleagues
  • Conducts raw material and equipment evaluations and makes recommendations to promote product quality and process safety and efficiency
  • Supports the scaling of the production process from pilot to high volume manufacturing with activities including the development of robust manufacturing instructions, validation of full-scale batches, and training for manufacturing operators
  • Conducts and manages shelf-life study and provides updates to the team
  • Enters process and product waivers as required
  • Manages equipment calibration record
  • Operates equipment and follows procedures in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree required in a STEM field, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience, 3 years preferred, of relevant manufacturing experience
  • Pilot production or scale up experience is preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
