About the position

This full-time role is about making an impact on people's lives and the future of clean energy. You will leverage your skills and experience to be part of an innovative team and make a difference for our customers. As a Chemical / Mechanical Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Installed Base Business Unit. Your work will include supporting system component design and qualification, process systems maintenance, and system component fabrication. You will apply Framatome's patented sludge chemical cleaning or radioactive system decontamination applications, which involve various components such as heat transfer, ion exchange, pumping, ventilation, chemical handling, corrosion monitoring, reverse osmosis, and waste treatment. Daily activities will be diverse and largely depend on the status of each project assignment plus your designated role on the contracted assignment. You will work closely with process chemists and control engineers to ensure the application process is set up to perform as designed to achieve maximum results and efficiently run the process. This position requires up to 50% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support system component design and qualification, process systems maintenance, and system component fabrication.
  • Apply Framatome's patented sludge chemical cleaning or radioactive system decontamination applications.
  • Design the application process, identify the optimum solvent, and apply the process onsite after setting up and testing the applications equipment.
  • Scale-up/-down processes including appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration.
  • Write procurement authorizations and follow procedures to operate components/systems.
  • Apply new technologies and research new products from trial through to commercialization.

Requirements

  • Completed a BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Knowledge and experience with SOLIDWORKS.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite applications; Word, Excel, and OneNote.
  • Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
  • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong technical/operational background with basic piping and fluid dynamic systems, instrumentation drawings, and rotating equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the US Navy Nuclear Power Program.
  • Experience in designing, testing, and qualifying new and/or improved chemical cleaning system components.
  • Experience in writing reports documenting system/component testing, laboratory research, and process application summaries.
