About the position

As a Chemical Product Engineer at PPG, you will focus on improving manufacturing processes and product design related to paint and coatings. This role involves collaborating with operations and technical teams to enhance plant operations at the Oak Creek, Wisconsin facility. You will be responsible for troubleshooting technical issues, managing product formulations, and supporting new product introductions.

Responsibilities

  • Be site expert for plant technical issues by providing proactive analytical skills to troubleshoot and problem solve process within the plant.
  • Collaborate with Technical and the formulators on new batch requests, review, document results, and make minor adjustments to meet specifications.
  • Update formulas as needed for transferred product codes (according to Technical guidelines).
  • Preview batches in production schedule to proactively reduce chance of issues and identify potential changes with cleans.
  • Manage Work-off inventory by writing AVOs to consume and identify action items during post batch reviews.
  • Execute raw material substitutions to eliminate production delays and produce savings (according to Technical guidelines).
  • Resolve formulation issues on problem batches during production run by specifying adjustments through AVOs.
  • Lead and/or help follow processes: PPAPs, Gauge R&R, FMEA, RCFA, DOEs, and MOCs as it relates to products and process.
  • Lead root cause failure analysis and problem solving sessions.
  • Support new product and technology introductions to the plant, working with global teams including R&D.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of process improvement, process design and optimization, and quality assurance processes and procedures.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaborative relationships within all levels of the organization.
  • Strength in creative problem solving and leading cross-functional teams to meet business objectives.
  • Training and experience with root cause failure analysis (RCFA).
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred.
