The Biological and Chemical Technologies Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a Chemical Synthesis and Analysis Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to addressing significant national security challenges through advanced biological and chemical technologies. This role involves developing innovative methods for synthesizing, collecting, analyzing, processing, and identifying chemical materials. The projects undertaken by the team include the creation of mobile sensors for security and environmental applications, trace detection of threat chemicals, and the synthesis of new and unusual materials. The work will require both bench synthetic and analytical efforts, as well as fieldwork to collect data in real-world operational environments. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with end-user and collaborator organizations, making a meaningful impact in the field. Candidates will be expected to engage in a variety of tasks that require a strong foundation in chemistry and chemical engineering principles. The position demands familiarity with common methods of chemical analysis, including but not limited to NMR, mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy, and gas/liquid chromatography. Direct experience in at least one of these analytical techniques is essential.
