About the position

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at Byron Center Charter School is responsible for overseeing the school's operations, ensuring a safe and orderly environment for both students and staff. The CAO will lead initiatives that foster academic and social growth, while aligning with the school's mission and vision. This role requires strong leadership, budget management, and the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including parents and educational organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly environment for adults and children
  • Authorize expenditures within budget
  • Attend, arrange and prepare reports for Board meetings
  • Maintain requirements of Codes for present facilities
  • Facilitate building school improvement processes, protocols, and plan development
  • Be available for conferences, informal conversations, or phone calls with parents
  • Develop and maintain a parent handbook to acquaint parents with school program, procedures, policies, services, events, calendar, staff, etc
  • Research and stay informed about expectations of local public and private schools for children of various ages or grade levels
  • Maintain correspondence and other requirements of relationships with Grand Valley State University, Michigan Department of Education, and other professional member organizations
  • Observe and meet with teaching members to determine if the curriculum and instruction meet the needs of the students and the program needs
  • Determine professional development
  • Prepare all reports for outside agencies, including the State of Michigan Department of Education and Department of Human Services
  • Work with staff to assist in managing behavior and/or challenging issues in or outside of the classroom
  • Work along staff to determine and implement a plan to address a child who presents a special need, including meeting with the family and/or providing the family with resources needed to address the need, which may include a change in schools
  • Assist staff to determine if any students should not be promoted to the next grade

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • Michigan Administrator Certification
  • Five plus years working in a K-12 school; leadership experience preferred
  • Appreciation for students with learning differences as well as for students from diverse family and socio-economic situations
  • Proven experience with staff supervision and budget management
