About The Position

The Chief Deputy District Attorney serves as a key legal leader within the Adams County District Attorney's Office, responsible for overseeing the prosecution of criminal cases in the 17th Judicial District. This role involves acting on behalf of the District Attorney, managing a team of attorneys, and ensuring the fair and ethical prosecution of offenders while seeking justice for victims. The position requires strong leadership, legal expertise, and the ability to foster positive relationships with various stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school is required.
  • Minimum of seven years' practice as an attorney prosecuting a full range of felony cases, including complex cases.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Act on behalf of the District Attorney and represent the people of the State of Colorado.
  • Oversee a unit of attorneys and the criminal cases assigned to those attorneys.
  • Handle all aspects of trial litigation on complex criminal cases, including investigation, preliminary hearings, plea negotiations, and jury trials.
  • Review evidence and make decisions on the filing of criminal cases, including felonies, misdemeanors, and juvenile cases.
  • Provide mentorship, assistance, and legal advice to attorneys regarding their dockets.
  • Supervise and review the preparation and presentation of evidence in all criminal cases in the unit.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with attorneys and District Attorney staff.
  • Plan and direct work to assigned attorneys and employees within the office.
  • Appraise performance and address performance-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Establish and nurture relationships between the Office of the District Attorney and the community.
