About the position

The Service Area CFO is a pivotal member of the service area leadership decision-making team, playing a crucial role in shaping the financial strategies and operational goals of the service area and its ministries. This position is responsible for collaborating with local and regional leaders to set strategic directions and lead initiatives aimed at achieving operational goals and budgets. The Service Area CFO will also support the service area team in delivering transformation efforts, ensuring that financial practices align with the overall mission and vision of Providence St. Joseph Health. Additionally, this role involves representing the service area or local ministries in a finance leadership capacity on joint ventures and related boards or management teams, as assigned by the Regional CFO. In this capacity, the Service Area CFO will have shared accountability for both service area and local operations, working closely with system shared services representatives to drive results. The position reports directly to the Regional CFO, with a matrixed line to the Chief Executives of the service area and/or local ministries. The CFO will be instrumental in carrying out the mission, vision, and values of Providence St. Joseph Health, ensuring that financial performance is optimized and aligned with the organization's strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include providing leadership to achieve service area operating results, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting. The CFO will also assist the service area CEO with monthly operating reviews and serve on joint venture boards or committees as delegated by regional leadership. This role requires a strong focus on collaboration with shared services partners in revenue cycle management, accounting, and performance improvement projects, ensuring that financial operations are efficient and effective.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the mission, vision and values of Providence St. Joseph Health.
  • Provide leadership to ensure achievement of service area operating results and strategies as delegated by the Regional CFO and Service Area CEO.
  • Work with the service area leadership teams to solve problems and implement strategies or tactics that improve the financial performance of the service area.
  • Drive the details and strategy for service area budgets.
  • Manage to appropriate financial benchmarks and reporting indicators for the budgets.
  • Assist the service area CEO with monthly operating reviews.
  • Serve on joint venture boards or committees as delegated by regional leadership.
  • Be accountable for working closely with shared services partners in revenue cycle, system accounting, and performance improvement projects.
  • Serve as the finance liaison on local or geographic boards and committees as appropriate; communicate to core leaders and employees regularly on financial related items.
  • Oversee and assist the regional CFO with managing relationships with key shared services partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance related field
  • Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance related field (preferred)
  • Upon hire: Certified Public Accountant (preferred)
  • Upon hire: HFMA or FACHE (preferred)
  • 10 or more years of closely related experience
  • 10 or more years of experience in a leadership role
  • Ability to use mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of financial principles and practices and the ability to apply them effectively
  • Effective written communication skills as appropriate for the needs of the audience
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations; live, via online or virtual mediums

  • Knowledge of the use of health information technology to improve care (e.g.: electronic medical records, disease registries, websites, IVR).
