About the position

The Chief of Staff for a Division I Men's Basketball program plays a key role in the strategic and operational success of the team and all student-athletes in the program. This position will assist in the creation and deliverance of programming to support student-athlete academic development and leadership development within the program. This individual is responsible for overseeing administrative functions, player personnel management, assisting with all team logistics, and management of donor & alumni relations. Will assist in teaching the OUE 1086/1087 Class for the summer & fall terms on campus, be a guest presenter in the Athletics Finance class on Campus and will meet with the International SA affinity group one time each semester. Chief of Staff will be responsible for the executive of Student-Athlete Name/Image/Likeness and responsible for the execution of Revenue Sharing and NIL with all men's basketball Student-Athletes. The Chief of Staff will also be the liaison between the men's basketball staff and the Executive Associate AD who oversees sport performance, athletic training/injury prevention & nutrition to ensure the student-athlete experience is being fulfilled in these areas. The Chief of Staff will have a role in assisting the men's basketball staff with game planning, opponent evaluation and scouting, and video analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all of court-activities for the program, including guiding and assisting student-athletes in utilizing the resources available to develop the skills they need to balance the demands of academics, athletics, and community outreach while focusing on leadership & personal development
  • Liaison to Student-Athlete Support Services and implantation of programs for academic success
  • Liaison with Compliance regarding admissions and eligibility for incoming student-athletes
  • Manage day-to-day basketball program operations, including assist in scheduling, budgeting, and logistics
  • Assist coaching staff with player evaluation, scouting, and recruitment strategies
  • Develop relationships with high school and AAU coaches to enhance recruiting pipelines
  • Lead on SA Name, Image & Likeness. Lead on revenue share and NIL for each current SA and each prospective SA being recruited into the program-ensuring that Campus & Athletics Department policy & procedures are adhered to
  • Monitor player eligibility, academic progress, and compliance with NCAA rules
  • Collaborate with Executive Associate AD to ensure the head coach's preferences are shared and integrated into the daily routines of player development through resources such as sport performance training, nutrition, sport medicine/prevention, and wellness programs
  • Liaison with the Facility Management & Equipment Team and ensure proper equipment and resources are available
  • Coordinate with marketing and media relations to promote the program
  • Develop community outreach programming
  • Oversee donor and alumni relations. Collaborate with Golden Gopher Foundation (GGF) to identify, cultivate and steward Donors for the MBB program
  • Co-Instructor for the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) 1086/1087 Class on UMN Campus and serves as a guest Instructor in the SMGT 3421 Business of Sport
  • Meet with the International Student Affinity Group during the semester to advise and help transition international student athletes
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Men's Basketball and Student Athlete Support Services to facilitate academic success for student-athletes
  • Oversee all leadership development within the program and develop/teach a yearly curriculum
  • Assist in evaluation of opponent game film and contribute towards game plan design and implementation
  • Assist in student athlete skill evaluation and development
  • Collaborate with Gopher Digital Production Team (GDP) to create exciting & energetic video clips and highlights for external audiences such as season ticket holders and donors
  • Assist with GGF on a regular & ongoing basis pertaining to the basketball program and all affiliations (Friends of the Barn, booster clubs, alumni clubs)
  • Serve as the primary contact between Men's Basketball staff and the Executive Associate AD for SA Health & Well-Being to ensure the strength and conditioning staff and other personnel have the most current information related to student-athlete performance for men's basketball
  • Serve as the primary contact between Men's Basketball staff and the Executive Associate AD for SA Health & Well-Being to ensure the most up-to-date technology & practices related to nutrition, strength and conditioning, performance enhancement, and injury prevention for men's basketball
  • Assist with the planning/administration/oversight of summer camps

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in athletics administration, team management, or a related role
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA compliance and regulations
  • Experience working with Division 1 basketball programs preferred
