About the position

The Chief of Staff at New Mexico State University (NMSU) serves as a key member of the President's senior staff, providing executive-level support and oversight of operational, administrative, and financial matters within the President's office. This role is pivotal in advising the President on policy and procedural issues, leading strategic initiatives, and representing the President to various stakeholders. The Chief of Staff will manage the President's calendar, coordinate special projects, and oversee several departments, ensuring effective communication and operational efficiency within the university system.

Responsibilities

• Advise the President on policy, procedural, and operational issues.
• Lead the operationalization of strategic initiatives for the President.
• Represent the President to senior vice presidents, campus officials, and external constituents.
• Participate in strategy development, institutional planning, and policy development.
• Coordinate special projects involving senior officers and external stakeholders.
• Serve as the first line of contact for University initiatives and requests.
• Write confidential reports and prepare executive summaries and correspondence.
• Manage the President's calendar and activities, including travel and itineraries.
• Oversee invitations and requests for the President.
• Authorize signatures on behalf of the President for letters, contracts, and agreements.
• Directly oversee departments such as Marketing and Communications, Public Safety, Government Relations, Physical Sciences Lab, and University Flight Operations.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Business or a related technical field.
• Fifteen (15) years of increasingly progressive management experience in relevant areas, or ten (10) years as a senior executive in business or research management.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and education.
