About the position

The Chief of Staff (CoS) is a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team at IMPACCT Brooklyn, reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED). The CoS acts as a strategic partner and operational leader, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while serving as the primary liaison between the ED and other senior leaders. This role provides critical support to the ED by managing departmental coordination, driving organizational initiatives, and enhancing communication across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the ED and senior leadership to develop and execute organizational strategies.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the ED, providing counsel on key decisions and initiatives.
  • Serve as a buffer for the ED, prioritizing tasks and delegating responsibilities to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate cross-departmental activities to optimize efficiency and foster collaboration.
  • Monitor progress on strategic initiatives and provide updates to the ED.
  • Facilitate departmental and senior leadership meetings.
  • Represent the ED in meetings, ensuring proper follow-up on action items.
  • Address inquiries directed to the ED, delegating tasks appropriately.
  • Lead special projects from ideation to implementation, ensuring timely delivery of results.
  • Develop systems for tracking organizational performance metrics and KPIs and report back to the ED.
  • Mentor senior leaders to foster accountability and professional growth.
  • Partner with HR to strengthen talent development strategies and address staffing concerns.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years in executive leadership roles or operations management in nonprofit or community-focused organizations.
  • Proven experience overseeing multiple departments and leading strategic initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to synthesize information for diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in time management, project execution, and strategic planning.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with a focus on operational efficiency and innovation.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools, budget management, and reporting systems.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) to navigate complex organizational dynamics effectively.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement.
