Join Our Team as Chief of Staff - Lead, Inspire, and Shape the Future of News! Are you a seasoned reporter with a sharp news sense, exceptional organisational skills, and a passion for storytelling? Do you have an unshakeable connection to the South West region and its vibrant communities? If you're ready to take your career to the next level and lead a talented team of journalists, we want to hear from you! We're seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief of Staff to join our team and help drive our success across the South West. Based in our Bunbury office, this role reports directly to the South West editor and plays a pivotal role in overseeing six weekly mastheads, covering everything from Waroona to Walpole. You'll manage a dedicated team of reporters across multiple locations and contribute to creating the high-impact news our audience counts on.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage your keen news sense to assist in curating the daily news list, ensuring our coverage is timely, relevant, and impactful.
  • Guide, support, and inspire a team of reporters, helping them grow in their craft while maintaining top-tier standards.
  • Oversee newsroom operations, assigning and briefing reporters on key stories, and ensuring smooth workflow across all departments.
  • Work closely with senior editors, other departments, and your team to bring innovative and engaging stories to life.
  • Assist with forward planning, rostering, and keeping the newsroom running like a well-oiled machine under tight deadlines.

Requirements

  • You have a background in journalism and an innate ability to lead and mentor a team.
  • Strong social media skills and deep knowledge of the ever-evolving media landscape.
  • You're cool under deadline pressure and ready to take charge in fast-paced environments.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are your strengths.
  • While a bachelor's degree in journalism (or related field) is preferred, it's your experience and passion that truly matters!
