About the position

The Chief of Staff will oversee and support staff members in achieving their ministry goals while ensuring their spiritual, emotional, and relational health. This role involves facilitating communication among teams, resolving workplace conflicts, managing personnel budgets, and administering the church management system. The Chief of Staff will also coordinate stewardship communications, maintain HR best practices, and oversee the church's financial health and insurance policies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, coach, and support staff members to ensure accountability to their ministry goals.
  • Facilitate healthy collaboration and open communication among staff members and designated teams.
  • Lead in resolving workplace conflicts as necessary.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the SPRC, making recommendations for staffing structure and compensation changes.
  • Attend various meetings including program staff, Finance Committee, and Ministry Council as requested.
  • Initiate and coordinate stewardship communications, including pledge campaigns and donor relations.
  • Administer the church management system (ShelbyNext) and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Maintain HR best practices and ensure compliance with employment regulations.
  • Account for personnel-related processes and policies, ensuring consistency in compensation recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain performance review processes and maintain personnel records.
  • Administer and oversee the organization's IT program, coordinating with outside service providers.
  • Work with the Senior Pastor to identify implications of proposed strategic directions.
  • Coordinate annual Check-Out procedures and Charge Conference paperwork with the Senior Pastor.
  • Maintain the integrity of the church's accounting structure and prepare budget updates.
  • Monitor giving and operations cash flow to ensure financial health of the church.
  • Manage church insurance policies and ensure appropriate coverages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience, preferably in management and leadership roles.
  • Experience in a local church or non-profit setting is preferred.
  • Relevant Master's/Graduate Degree (MBA, J.D., MDiv, etc.) is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in software troubleshooting
  • Willingness to travel 25%.
