About the position
The Child Protection Specialist at the Kansas Department for Children and Families is responsible for conducting family assessments and investigating allegations of abuse and neglect. This role involves collaboration with schools, courts, law enforcement, and community partners to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families. The specialist will assess family needs, make appropriate service referrals, and maintain thorough documentation of investigations and assessments.
Responsibilities
- Conduct family assessments and investigations of abuse/neglect allegations.
- Collaborate with schools, courts, law enforcement, and community partners.
- Determine the safety of children and assess family needs.
- Make referrals for appropriate services such as foster care, family preservation, and mental health services.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
- Write affidavits for court and complete necessary documentation in KIDS and KIPS systems.
- Manage new intakes and maintain timely documentation.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in a Human Services or Behavioral Sciences field or relevant education as determined by the agency.
- Valid driver's license and maintenance of it throughout employment.
- If licensed, must maintain the license throughout employment.

- Master's in Professional Counseling (Licensed Professional Counselor)
- Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)
