About the position

The Civil Project Manager/Estimator at TMG Construction is responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. This role involves collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders to identify new business opportunities, prepare cost proposals, and manage project execution from inception to closeout. The position requires a strong understanding of civil engineering practices and project management principles, with a focus on driving the growth of TMG's civil portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Integral role in the growth and development of TMG Civil to become a $10M highly profitable annual revenue Business Unit by a specified date.
  • Manage the construction workflow process from project origination to closeout, including estimating, negotiation, contracting, and financial management.
  • Provide detailed cost estimating for civil components of projects, including earthwork, grading, and utility installation.
  • Create a historic database of productivity rates for bidding and monitoring new work.
  • Collaborate with TMG estimating to scope, outsource, bid, negotiate, and subcontract work as needed.
  • Maintain TMG's equipment inventory and manage financial aspects related to equipment.
  • Track and effectively utilize manpower to achieve labor performance targets.
  • Network with the trucking, equipment, and supply community to acquire and sell necessary services.
  • Develop critical path project schedules using Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Drive project performance by updating schedules and identifying impacts to the critical path.
  • Review project productivity, effectiveness, quality, and profitability on a weekly basis and make necessary adjustments.
  • Implement appropriate project control measures and ensure compliance with contract terms and legal requirements.
  • Manage financial obligations, including vendor payments and monthly requisitions to the Owner.
  • Document substantial completion and manage the project closeout process.
  • Acquire and manage building permits and regulatory prerequisites as required.
  • Lead the development and growth of the Civil Engineering business portfolio by building professional relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, budget targets, and safety regulations.
  • Visit project sites to assure safety, quality, and cleanliness.
  • Provide leadership, direction, mentoring, and training to the team.
  • Participate in industry networking functions and seek professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction management with 8-10 years of experience in civil commercial/industrial contracting, or 15+ years of directly related experience without a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in estimating and managing subcontracted and self-performed civil work.
  • Knowledge of engineering design, contractor management, and contract administration.
  • Ability to analyze soil borings and understand excavation and shoring methods.
  • Commitment to high-quality product and service delivery with attention to detail.
  • Exceptional customer service and client communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Effective negotiation skills and ability to manage priorities in a changing environment.
  • Proficiency with construction industry software, spreadsheets, and email.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for self and team.
  • Current safety credentials including OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR/AED, and CQC certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or MS Project scheduling software.
