About the position

Pepper Construction Group LLC is seeking a Civil Project Manager to join its Energy Group in Barrington, IL. This position focuses on managing projects related to land development for utility scale solar, battery, and community solar farm projects primarily located in Illinois. The Civil Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of project management, including road design, crane path design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, mass grading, erosion and sediment control design, and field reconnaissance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and project management, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, whether they are mid-sized, small, or a single larger project. The role requires proficiency in design software, particularly Civil 3D, and the ability to complete engineering calculations and specifications. The Civil Project Manager will also assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates and will be involved in preconstruction activities as necessary. Effective communication with clients, staff, and the internal design team is crucial, as is the ability to mentor junior staff members. Responsibilities

  • Manage several mid-sized projects, multiple small projects, or a single larger project simultaneously.
  • Design portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology.
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills, utilizing computers to solve problems.
  • Prepare specifications materials using research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection, and payment of items specific to a project.
  • Work on completing design details and plan sets.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates and assist in preconstruction as necessary.
  • Communicate with clients, staff, employees, and the internal design team.
  • Mentor junior level staff.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related degree, and professional engineering (P.E.) certification.
  • 3+ years of experience in civil engineering related to land development.
  • Understanding of project accounting and demonstrated ability to manage the schedule and budget for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in marketing and supervision of the technical work of others.
  • Working knowledge of CADD and/or Civil 3D software.
