About the position

AtkinsRéal is seeking Civil/Structural Engineers to join our Power & Industrial Solutions Northeast Team in Binghamton, NY or Rochester, NY. The position requires working independently on fast-paced technically complex design projects, supporting or leading substation engineering project teams, and developing civil/foundation and structural calculations, plans, and details. The role involves coordinating design activities, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. The successful candidate will also assist in site visits, provide construction support, and mentor developing engineers within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Engineering Manager and works independently on fast-paced technically complex design projects.
  • Supports or leads substation engineering project teams with civil/foundation and structural calculations, plans, and details.
  • Develops and reviews civil/structural design packages for medium and high voltage substations.
  • Leads civil/structural design for civil site development, foundations, equipment support structures, control buildings, and ancillary structures.
  • Performs design studies/calculations and demonstrates knowledge of physical substation design.
  • Coordinates design activities to maintain project schedules, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Assists in site visits, estimating, and attending project meetings.
  • Provides design activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Prepares specifications for material, equipment, and construction work.
  • Reviews internal and external designs for code compliance and constructability.
  • Provides construction support including resolving site queries and performing site inspections.
  • Maintains complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations.
  • Maintains good working relationships with internal groups that support projects.
  • Mentors and provides guidance to developing engineers within the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of ten years of professional experience for Senior positions; minimum of five years for Intermediate positions.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
  • Prior utility or utility consulting experience.
  • Strong client focus and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards including IEEE, ANSI, NERC, and FERC regulations.
  • Ability to perform independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other typical structural design software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with safety, environmental, quality assurance, and quality control policies.
