About The Position

This role requires at least 4 days onsite per week. The ideal claims team member will be an analytical and creative problem solver with the ability to hone in on key issues for coverage, liability and damage evaluation. Our claim examiners are assertive decision makers with a strong desire to persuade through negotiation and conflict management. The claims team offers ongoing challenges, even for the most experienced professional, as every claim is unique, providing new opportunities to learn and grow. Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant experience for Associate Claim Examiner or 7+ years for Claim Examiner handling general liability/casualty/excess matters.
  • Experience as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, or other transferable experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Insightful analytical skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Technical knowledge of insurance coverage, negligence law, and claim evaluation.

  • Multi-jurisdictional knowledge.
  • Advanced degrees and/or JD.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm coverage by reviewing the first notice of loss, checking all available systems, and interpreting policy language.
  • Prepare initial position letters to the policyholder such as disclaimers and reservation of rights after coverage analysis.
  • Conduct thorough and focused investigations of claims, securing all pertinent facts, statements & documents, identifying joint tortfeasors and witnesses, and conducting scene investigations.
  • Post, review, and maintain initial reserves as the file develops to reflect ultimate exposure based on liability and damage evaluation.
  • Manage files proactively toward final disposition via effective diary management, direction to defense counsel & independent adjusters, and analysis & strategy leading to negotiated settlement or trial.
  • Document substantive file activity in claim notes.
  • Communicate effectively while the claim is pending, including delivery of comprehensive authority requests, reinsurance reports, serious loss reports, coverage position letters, and appropriate communication with underwriting and actuary.
  • Support customer service by responding the same day to phone and email both internally and externally and adhere to established claim service promises.
  • Complete special projects as needed.
  • Enroll in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support professional and personal development.
