About the position

The Classification & Compensation Consultant at the University of North Carolina Wilmington plays a crucial role in the Human Resources team, focusing on internal and external initiatives that align with the university's strategic goals. This position is responsible for providing expert guidance on compensation policies, conducting job analyses, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The consultant collaborates with various stakeholders to implement best practices in compensation management, contributing to a customer-centric and innovative HR environment.

Responsibilities

  • Extend stellar customer service through collaboration with campus HR Business Officers to ensure the compensation program supports organizational objectives.
  • Advise campus partners on compensation matters, including recruitment ranges.
  • Perform job analysis, classification, and position creation, determining pay range recommendations and exemption status.
  • Conduct market and equity analysis of positions to assess salaries and proactively address compensation issues.
  • Analyze results from salary surveys to assess market competitiveness and update ranges as applicable.
  • Participate in salary survey participation and the annual raise process, including reporting to the UNC Systems Office.
  • Collaborate on compensation and cross-functional projects that support HR initiatives.
  • Develop and facilitate training on compensation policies and practices for campus HR partners.
  • Regularly perform data queries and input in HRIS and software applications related to compensation.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience in HR best practices.
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, and communicating HR policies in alignment with organizational goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • B.S. in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in Classification and Compensation, particularly in public higher education.
  • Experience with UNC System and NC Office of State Human Resources policies.
  • Certifications in Compensation and/or Human Resources such as CCA, CCP, SCP/S-SCP, PHR/SPHR/SHRM.
