About the position

The Clinical Biospecimen Coordinator position at the School of Medicine, Computational Biomedicine at Boston University is a vital role that supports the section's biobanking efforts and large-scale consortium-based projects. The coordinator will be responsible for managing the logistics of biospecimen shipments from collection sites, ensuring that all samples are collected, stored, and tracked accurately. This role also involves maintaining a comprehensive inventory of biospecimens and facilitating research subject recruitment, sample collection, and data management. Effective communication is essential, as the coordinator will interact with clinicians and project personnel, including members from various laboratories both within and outside of Boston University and Boston Medical Center (BMC). The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate biospecimen shipments with collection sites.
  • Maintain biospecimen inventory and ensure accurate tracking.
  • Assist in research subject recruitment and sample collection.
  • Manage data related to biospecimens and research studies.
  • Communicate effectively with clinicians and project personnel.
  • Collaborate with internal and external laboratories on biobanking efforts.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a biomedical field or bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication ability.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience with LIMS and freezer-storage software is a plus.
  • Experience with clinical data management systems (REDCap, EPIC) is a plus.
  • 2 years' experience in research or health-related field is a plus.
