About The Position

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist at Lehigh Valley Health Network is responsible for supervising and overseeing stress testing and exercise interventions for patients, particularly those with cardiovascular and metabolic concerns. This role involves assessing patient responses to exercise, collaborating with healthcare teams, and ensuring high-quality diagnostic testing outcomes. The position requires a strong foundation in exercise physiology, critical thinking, and the ability to educate patients on health and lifestyle modifications.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology and hemodynamic response to exercise
  • Ability to select appropriate cardiac exercise protocols for stress testing
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac rhythms and arrhythmia recognition
  • Critical thinking and judgment skills to evaluate patient responses during testing
  • Ability to multitask and work well under stress and in emergencies
  • Ability to work interdependently and use PC software programs
  • Ability to develop individualized exercise prescriptions for patients
  • Demonstrated strong educational teaching abilities for patient education
  • ACLS certification - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - State of Pennsylvania
  • Basic Life Support certification - American Heart Association - State of Pennsylvania upon hire
  • ACSM-Cert Tr-Exer Spec-Hlth-Fit Inst-Exer Phys certification within 1 year or CCRP-Cert Cardiac Rehab Professional within 1 year

  • Clinical internship in diagnostic stress testing with a diseased population
  • Basic and advanced ECG courses with 12-lead ECG evaluation and dysrhythmia recognition

Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate stress exercise protocol for patients based on medical history and evaluations.
  • Recognize indications and contraindications for stress testing/intervention.
  • Communicate with physicians regarding stress testing orders and patient conditions.
  • Prepare patients for testing/intervention, ensuring understanding and proper lead placement.
  • Supervise patients during various stress testing interventions, monitoring for inappropriate responses.
  • Evaluate patient anatomy, physiology, and vital signs during testing, detecting any abnormalities.
  • Integrate exercise testing data into documentation for physician interpretation.
  • Recognize the need for physician presence during stress testing/intervention.
  • Perform holter monitor scan analysis as needed.
  • Support the supervision and onboarding of new employees and student interns.
  • Provide education on exercise, health, and lifestyle modifications.
