About the position

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) specializing in Inpatient Wound and Ostomy care. This position is designed to meet the unique health needs of Alaska Native and American Indian populations, providing world-class health services through a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach. The Wound CNC will serve as a clinical expert in evidence-based nursing practices related to wound treatment and management, ensuring excellence in nursing care through the development of clinical standards, education, and competency assessments for staff members. In this role, the Wound CNC will work closely with nursing staff to provide hands-on patient care, assess patients, and recommend treatment for wounds and skin disorders as per physician orders. The CNC will implement agreed-upon interventions and educate bedside nurses on effective wound management techniques. Regular patient rounds will be conducted to provide clinical oversight and ensure optimal management of wounds. The CNC will also enhance the quality of patient care by offering consultation to bedside nurses and care providers, thereby improving the overall nurse experience through expert guidance and problem-solving. The Wound CNC will maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in wound care, leading initiatives to align nursing and treatment strategies with evidence-based practices. This includes assessing needs, developing plans, and leading performance improvement projects aimed at reducing pressure injuries and wound complications. Effective leadership skills are essential for planning, problem-solving, and evaluating nursing practices related to this specialty area. The CNC will collaborate with the Acute Care administrative team to ensure clinical alignment with inpatient and organizational goals. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with all nursing staff to provide and evaluate hands-on patient care.
  • Assesses patients and provides recommendations for treatment of all wounds and skin disorders as requested by physician order.
  • Implements interventions as agreed upon by provider and educates bedside nurse in wound management.
  • Rounds on patients and provides clinical oversight to management of wounds.
  • Enhances the quality of patient care by providing consultation to bedside nurses and care providers.
  • Enhances the quality of the nurse experience by providing expert guidance, problem solving, and assistance with developing plan of care as it relates to wound care.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of best practice in wound care and leads efforts to keep nursing and treatment strategies in line with evidence-based practice.
  • Assesses needs, develops plans, and leads performance improvement projects that decrease development of pressure injuries and wound complications.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills when planning, problem solving, and evaluating nursing practice as it relates to specialty area.
  • Works cohesively as part of the Acute Care administrative team to maintain clinical alignment with Inpatient and Organizational goals and expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska and remain active with all annual licensing requirements.
  • Current Basic Life Support card required.
  • Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (CWOCN) certification from Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) or Wound Care Certified (WCC) and Ostomy Management Specialist (OMS) from the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy Certification Board (NAWCCB), required within 24 months of start of position.
  • Two (2) years registered nurse experience which demonstrates leadership skills and ability to work within a team environment, effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, data analysis and research interpretation skills, and computer/word processing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing
  • 2 years as an RN with direct wound and ostomy care.
  • National certification is preferred.
