About the position

The Critical Care Float Pool at Albany Medical Center offers a unique opportunity for Registered Nurses (RNs) to gain and practice critical care skills across various intensive care units, including Neuro-Surgical Trauma ICU, Medical ICU, Coronary Care Unit, and Cardiovascular ICU. This role involves providing compassionate care while implementing physician orders, administering medications, and collaborating with the nursing team to create comprehensive care plans for patients.

Responsibilities

• Implements physician orders and administers medications.
• Starts IVs, performs treatments, procedures, and special tests, documenting as required.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to assess patients' conditions.
• Assesses and evaluates patient needs and responses to care.
• Applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
• Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
• Collaborates with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
• Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintains standards of professional nursing.

Requirements

• Graduate of a professional academic nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree).
• Current NYS Registered Nurse license.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Minimum of 1-3 years of previous clinical RN experience in Med-Surg or Progressive Care.
• Excellent communication, prioritization, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools.
